Electro-Spark is an owner-run electrical contractor and solar installer based in Table View, serving homes and businesses across the Cape Town metro. We work in the West Coast, Northern and Southern Suburbs, the Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl, and the main business districts, on electrical, solar, battery backup and compliance work.
Which areas of Cape Town does Electro-Spark cover?
We cover the whole Cape Town metro from our base in Table View, on the Blouberg side of the city: the West Coast suburbs, the Northern Suburbs, the Southern Suburbs, the Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl, and the business districts in between. Electro-Spark is an owner-run electrical contractor and solar installer, and the owner supervises the work.
The work changes with the area. A house in Bloubergstrand stands in salt air and takes the full force of the south-easter. A 1930s house in Rondebosch may still have rubber-insulated wiring behind the plaster. A flat in Sea Point needs the body corporate's consent before anything is fixed to the roof. A warehouse in Montague Gardens runs on three-phase and has a roof large enough for a substantial solar array. How we arrange a visit
When you call or WhatsApp, give us the suburb and a short description of the job, and we will confirm when we can attend. Jobs close to Table View are the easiest to schedule, although distance alone does not rule a job out.
Smaller jobs, such as a tripping circuit, a new plug point or a geyser element, can often be completed in one visit. Solar, backup, rewiring and commercial work usually needs a site visit first, because the quote depends on what can only be assessed in person: the DB board, the roof, the cable runs, and where an inverter and battery can safely be installed.
Photos sent on WhatsApp before the visit are useful. A clear picture of the DB board, with the cover on and off, tells us a great deal about what to bring. For solar, a photo of the roof and your latest electricity bill are a good starting point.
For commercial premises, let us know the building and any access rules: a security desk, a contractor booking system, or limits on when the power may be switched off. Planning around these before the first visit avoids a wasted trip.

Do the electrical rules differ across Cape Town?
No. Wherever you are in Cape Town, the electrical installation must meet SANS 10142-1, the national wiring code, and every installation needs a valid certificate of compliance. When a property is sold, the CoC is generally expected to be less than two years old.
Solar is the one area where your electricity supplier matters. If the City of Cape Town supplies your electricity, any grid-tied or grid-capable system must be registered with the City as small-scale embedded generation, and the inverter must be one the City accepts. Some parts of the metro are supplied directly by Eskom, and there the application goes to Eskom. We explain what is needed for SSEG registration and install to the requirements of your supplier.
